A little bit, yes. Relative popularity on DA helps me to get through school and make some money. I can do work that I enjoy and I can do it at home. Without DA and my "popularity" I'd have to get some other job that I wouldn't enjoy very much... What about you?

I dont really care XD i move so much that im usually not popular till a few years after living somewhere and in all truth on deviantart im mostly on here to see my sisters art and her improvement being able to see her work is more important than a dd on here to me anyways same in real life i've got her and shes got me so....even if im NOT popular i've got someone on my side
My friends and I got into a conversation about this today. One of my friends has been sitting with the 'popular' kids during lunch lately and then starting sitting with my friends and I again today. He said that they didn't want to hang out with him because he hung out with MY friends and I. I told him that popularity doesn't really matter. He replied that being 'popular' means everything to him and he'll do anything to BE popular. I then asked him what makes a person popular. He just said that it's the way people act. I replied to him that what makes their actions more special than anyone else's? In my personal opinion, popularity doesn't really matter in most cases. All in all, we all like to be acknowledged by the people who care about us the most. But getting some attention outside of your circle is good too
Huh. I think maybe a little. Maybe not if you're popular for frivolous things like stupid memes, but if you're genuinely good at drawing and you can show your prospective employers that you get a lot of commissions. Ah I don't know. I'm just rambling >_>
I think that it is not a bad thing if you aren't popular, but if you are, then you might have more chances than the others (more chances for what? For kind of anything) and you might also have bigger chances to make new and beautiful meetings (:
Uhm...sorry if you might not understand the meaning in my poor English~
Not 'popularity' in its superficial meaning. I want to be genuinely liked by people, and I want a nice group of really close friends. Let's face it, we all want to be liked as much as we may deny it. And on dA, it's super flattering to find people who like your art. I personally want as many people to see and experience my art as possible, and being more popular lets that happen
I'd like to be able to sell some art so yes, it matters to me.
In high school I wrote a horror story as part of a project we were doing after reading Frankenstein. Mine followed the criteria of being sci-fi and horror so much so that everyone looked disgusted when I was done reading it. The story that won didn't follow criteria at all and was poorly written but that kid won because he had more than friends than me who voted for his crappy story.
Popularity matters, maybe not to us individually, but it affects how successful we can be.
I think it depends. Not to say that I'm popular myself, but if you're popular on dA, then people like your work, which is great, of course. However, you can still be a great artist and not be popular at all, so I don't think it's too important of a factor, although it definitely does play a part. Besides, it seems to me that if you're more popular, you're under more judgement. In real life, though I really don't care for popularity. I am on good terms with the majority of people I know, but for me, my close friends are really what matter~
It really does depend. Yes we all like recognition sometimes but I wouldn't want the attention. Just the 'Oh that's nice' or 'wow that's good' is all i need. I don't advertise my art by just randomly favourting then getting 1000 page views in a few hours just to either get recognition or money. But no I would never want to be popular. People judge you even more! Just nice having a circle of friends.
I suppose my answer is similar to other voters. I find popularity on dA (and other art websites) is helpful when you are using art as a means of income, such as freelancing, selling prints, etc. If people don't know who you are, then your income is going to suffer. However, in real life, its different for me I prefer having few close friends.
I don't mind as long as I am enjoying what I am doing. Until so far everything I have done is more experimental than professional, I still have a lot to learn! In real life I am not popular or anything. I am usually quite and I like it that way.
It matter as much to me as it doesn't. The more people who look at my art, the more art I look at (I check the pages of all of my visitors and watchers). So the mutual audience is important to me. As for trying to be a professional artist: I will do with that as far as I can, regardless of how many people are seeing my DApage. Life exists off the web, and there's no reason to entirely center your life around people you may never meet.
I would like more people to look at my artwork, just so I know that what I do isn't complete crap, but it isn't completely eclipsing my other reasons for being on here. My friends are way more important than my popularity. I love taking pictures and artistry has been in my families blood for generations. I won't advertise my work on peoples profiles because I feel like I should have more sense then that. I just have to keep doing what I'm doing and sooner or later I'll have a good group of people who watch and like what I do. It just takes patience. That is my motto and I'm sticking to it.
As for in the real world, I have good friends who love me, I don't need popular ones that don't. Enough said.
On DA i think it's importante. Because this is an art comunity, and if you're popular it means that your art is good (well, sort of). In real life, it depends... if you're popular becaus of your art/work i think it's importante.. But that kind of popularity that you usualy see in schools like being popular because you're preatty, or hot, or because you are rich, or because you won a car or expensive clothes, i think that that type of popularity is not important at all, it's actually stupid and futile. This is what i think.
I hate to say it, but yes. (Just yesterday, I lost class officer elections to the popular kids who aren't doing a good job at all). It's not only popularity, but it's exposure (mainly in real life more than DA). To be honest, I want to be more exposed so that more people can see my work and would like it. I don't care too much if they favorite my work (but I wouldn't mind that much if they did...), but I sincerely want to make people happy with my pictures. I could keep going on and on, but I'll just end it there
